Gescan is pleased to announce the promotion of Daniel Haig to Lighting Business Unit Manager. In his new role as Business Unit Manager, Dan will lead Gescan’s growing team of Lighting Specialists across Canada. This new structure will create cross-department efficiencies improving Gescan’s selling process and stock availability. 

With fourty-five (45) years of experience in the field, Dan has become an important resource to Gescan’s residential, commercial and industrial customers, assisting them with the design and supply of their lighting challenges:  

“I want our customers to identify Gescan as the place to get quality lighting products and the proper responses to their lighting challenges. My goal is to always have a complete offering of quality products from our supported suppliers that brings value to our branches and our customers.” 

From educating customers on an ever-changing product offering, to advising on controls compatibility, Dan solves many of the lighting challenges faced by electrical contractors today. A solution provider, Dan works with our preferred suppliers to determine the best product to stock that will guarantee the performance and warranty needs of our customers.    

Before joining Gescan in 2014 as a Lighting Specialist, Dan began his career at the young age of fifteen (15) putting away stock and hanging fixtures for a lighting showroom.  When he was twenty-eight (28), he progressed into commercial lighting working in the quotations department and then eventually moved into Outside Sales for a large lighting manufacturer.  

For the past five (5) years Dan has operated as a Business Unit Leader setting the lighting strategy for all Gescan branches ensuring they have the breadth and quality of product that is competitively priced to meet our customer’s needs. With lighting being a large component of Gescan’s business, Dan ensures our branches can fulfil day-to-day lighting requirements with the stock that we carry.  

From the smallest to the largest projects, Dan also provides solutions to some of the toughest challenges faced by electrical contractors working in design. From getting the right product on time, to creating a proper bill of materials with design tools, Dan works closely with contractors, engineers, developers and property managers to implement practical and innovative lighting solutions. 

“The most rewarding part of solving lighting challenges is trying to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers whether it is around the budget or the design.  There is always a solution that will work.” 

Over the next five (5) years Dan will be working to expand the Lighting team with plans to hire new specialists in key regional areas. Dan will also be responsible for creating a team that can execute on other value-add services such as Gescan’s growing sustainability agenda. This includes offering energy audits that help electrical contractors receive local incentives for LED upgrades. 

From helping his family to being a devoted handyman at home, Dan is a solution provider in all aspects of his life. Looking forward, Dan is most excited to see the next evolution of lighting.
